One person is dead after a workplace accident near Hopewell Place and 27th Street N.E. on Tuesday afternoon.

Public information officer for the Calgary Fire Department, Carol Henke, says the incident involved the transport of large marble slabs in an outdoor business park area.

She called the situation a "tragic accident."

"Sometimes the outcome, despite everyone's best efforts on scene, is not what you hope for," said Henke.

In an email statement, EMS says paramedics responded to the incident around 1:30 p.m., but the person was determined dead at the scene.

The company associated with the incident has not yet been confirmed.

The incident is currently being investigated by Occupational Health and Safety (OHS).

"As this is an active investigation, no further information will be provided," said OHS in an email statement on Sept. 19.
