2 dead in suspected CO poisoning on boat

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating the death of two men by what they say appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Boat found at remote campsite east of Fort McMurray

Wood Buffalo RCMP are investigating the death of two men by what they say appears to be carbon monoxide poisoning.

Police received a report Friday afternoon about a boat tied up, with the motor running, on the Clearwater River by a remote campsite, approximately 80 kilometreseast of Fort McMurray.

The campsite was so remote that RCMP had to use a medevachelicopter to get to the scene.

RCMP discovered three men on the boat. Two were dead, the other was in medical distress.

The survivor was transported to the Northern Lights Hospital in Fort McMurray and eventually to MisericordiaCommunity Hospital in Edmonton.

Investigators say the boat was covered by a canopy and it appears the men were preparing to sleep. Foul play is not suspected.
