Alberta school boards association refuses to discuss transgender issues

Controversy has erupted during day one of the Alberta School Boards Associations fall general meeting Monday in Edmonton. The ASBA rejected the Edmonton public school boards motion to put transgender policy on the agenda for debate.

The Alberta School Boards Association has rejected the Edmonton public school board's motion to put transgenderpolicy on the agenda for debate.

The motion was rejected Monday at the ASBA'sfall general meeting in Edmonton.; 66 per cent is required to pass amotion.

Edmonton's public and Catholic school boards voted in favour of putting the item on the agenda. Calgary's Catholic board voted against the motion. Neither board from Lloydminster cast a ballot.

It was not immediately clear why the motion was rejected.
