ASIRT investigating after Edmonton police used Taser on suspect

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the case of a man who fell and hit his head after he was jolted by a police Taser.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the caseof a man who fell and hit his head after he was jolted by a policeTaser.

Edmonton police were calledonJune 20 toa weaponscomplaint, ASIRT said ina statement.

Thesuspect had a knife and ran away from police. Officers chased the man on foot.

During a confrontation, officers deployed a Taser and the manfell backwards and hit his head on the pavement.

The suspect was taken into custody, and a short time later was transported to hospital with non-life-threatening headinjuries.

ASIRT said theinvestigation will focus on whether use of the Taser was warranted.
