Technical issues behind boil water advisory in Red Deer, city clarifies

The city of Red Deer says a water leak and depressurized water line prompted authorities to issue a boil water advisory on Sunday.

The city made the clarification Monday, saying they "wanted to reach out to clear up some confusion in the community."

City officials put the boil water advisory into effect on Sunday without providing any explanationfor the precaution.

A spokesperson at the city said it isn't a widespread issue,with only 13 properties being asked to boil water before consumption.

Residents and businesses have been notified by hand-delivered notices.

Water is tested for contaminants and results typically take 48 hours, the city said.

If results confirm there is no contamination, the city will lift the advisory.
