Edmonton-based reporters Briar Stewart and Marion Warnica describe the delicate balance of reporting on the fire while staying out of harm's way.

While kilometre among kilometre of carsheaded south, several CBC vehicles made their way north.

Two teams of CBC Edmonton reporters rushed toward the flames to cover the disaster that ravagedFort McMurray.

Briar Stewart, Trevor Wilson,Rick Bremness, Terry Reith, andMarion Warnicafrom CBC Edmonton along with Sylvain Bascaron,Richard Marion and Emilio Avalosfrom Radio-Canadaall saw the flames firsthand.

The reporters spent more than a week in the northern Alberta city. When residents wereforced to evacuate,the teams wereseparated.

Warnica and Wilson were forced north alongside 25,000 other evacueesto the work camps while the rest remained south.

They spentdaysdelivering the stories of evacuees, first responders, and oil camp workers.
