Colleen Sillito sought restraining order against boyfriend before murder

Colleen Sillitosought a restraining order against Paul Joseph Jacobin January, stating that he hadthreatened to kill her if she left himand that hewas using cocaine and drinking heavily.

"I'm afraid for my safety," Sillito wrote in her application. "He's volatile and unpredictable. I don't want him to take it out on me or the children."

Sillito, 46, was shot to death Friday outside her home in Fort Saskatchewannortheast of Edmonton. Jacob'sbodywas also found at the scene.

Neighbours told CBC they believe the shootings were a murder-suicide.

Justice Sheila Greckolgranted the order against Jacob, ordering him to have no contact with Sillito and to stay at least 200 metres from herhome, where she lived with three of her children.

Theorder remained in effect until July 2015.

According to Sillito's application, she and Jacob lived in a common-law relationship thatbeganin November 2010.

Sillito described a history of verbal abuse by Jacob to her and her children.

"There has also been regular threats to myself especially surrounding what he would do if I ever left him -ie. 'If you ever f--- another man I'll kill you.' "

She said the abuse had escalated and that Jacob was drinking heavily. She also discovered he was using cocaine in the house with the children present.

Sillito wrote thatJacob had left home in early January to go to a Mexican resort, but was asked to leave the next day after "beating someone up."

"I'm afraid for the safety of myself and my children when he comes home to find that I am separating from him and applying to stay in the house."

Jacob was placed undera peace bond on June 3, 2015. OnSept. 3, 2015, he pleaded guilty to failing to comply with that bond and was fined$500.

RCMP will not release the cause of death or the identities of the victims until autopsies are completed Tuesday.
