Indigenous history on Treaty 6 territory in Alberta

We have created an interactive map with sites of significance that are important to the ever-growing fabric of Alberta's Treaty 6 territory. A learning guide has been developed to accompany this map.

Recognizing Indigenous sites of significance through the years

(CBC Edmonton (artwork done by John Cardinal))

In consultation with Indigenous elders and community members, we have created several maps of the Treaty 6 territory to celebrate and learn more about Indigenous culture and history. Each point on the map is of historic significance and contains a description of the place, with additional resources for further learning. The maps include Treaty 6 in relation to Alberta and Saskatchewan, Treaty 6 in Alberta, Edmonton, Edmonton core, the Wabamun/Lac Ste. Anne area and Maskwacs.

This learning guide is intended to be partnered with the "CBC Edmonton Indigenous History on Treaty 6 Territory in Alberta" map project. This project was imagined to be one starting point for building a bridge towards truth and reconciliation. Please use these interactive maps and this guide as tools to begin your learning journey or to encourage your continuing educational path.
