Alberta reports 244 new COVID-19 cases, 7 additional deaths

Seven deaths were reported by the province on Friday, including a man in his 20s in the North zone and a man in his 30s in the Central zone.

Alberta reported244 newcases of COVID-19 on Friday, along with seven additional deaths.

The deaths included a man in his 20s in the North zone and a man in his 30s in the Central zone.

There were 5,415 active cases in Alberta as of Friday, a decrease of 416 since the previous day.

Here's how active cases break down across the province:

  • Calgary zone: 2,188.
  • Edmonton zone: 1,415.
  • North zone: 762.
  • Central zone: 713.
  • South zone: 331.
  • Unknown: 6.

Hospitalizations dropped to 379 on Friday, down 32 from Thursday. There were 108 people in the ICU.

Provincial labs completed 5,818 tests over the last 24 hours with a positivity rate sitting at4.1 per cent.

As of Friday's update, 65 per cent of people over 12 have received at least one dose of vaccine while a total of2,951,927 doses have been given out in Alberta.
