Crude oil pipeline leaks into wetland near Fox Creek

The cause of a pipeline failure in northwestern Alberta remains under investigation. Calgary-based Triology Energy Corp. said it discovered the leak Thursday afternoon at its Kaybob Montney Oil project, located approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Fox Creek.

The cause of apipeline failure in northwestern Alberta remains under investigation.

Calgary-based Triology Energy Corp. said it discovered the leak Thursday afternoon at its Kaybob Montney Oil project, located approximately 15 kilometres northeast of Fox Creek.

A pipeline ruptured spilling oil emulsion, a mixture water and oil into a flowing marsh area.

The Alberta Energy Regulator was called in to respond, as the company activated its emergency response plan.

The location of the leak was identified and faulty section of the pipeline has been isolated, the company said in a statement.

The volume of the spill has yet to be determined, but crews are on site, assessing the impact of the release and beginning remediation of the area.

The company confirms, noone was injured in the incident. Production from the pipeline has been redirected indefinetly.
