2 arrested in connection to toddler found dead in Edmonton

Two people have been arrested in connection with the death of a toddler whose body was found in north Edmonton on Friday.

The man and the woman, who were the two "people of interest" the Edmonton Police Service were looking for earlier in the day, were arrested Saturday eveningand are in police custody. Their names have not been released.

Charges are pending against both, as investigators try to determine the relationship between the two and the little boy, police said.

The toddler was found in the area of 155th Avenue and Castledowns Road Friday around 2.30 p.m., near the Good Shepherd Anglican Church. Police believe the boy was left in the area on April 18, three days prior to when he was found.

EPS released photos Friday of clothes the toddler was wearing in hopes the public could identify him.

Police releasedphotos Saturday afternoon of two people of interest: a man and a woman. In the photo, one person ispushing astroller near the entrance of a grocery store in the area where the boy's body was found. These photos were takenon Monday, April 17,EPS spokesperson CherylSheppard said Saturday.

Hours after releasing the photos, Edmonton police were able to locate and arrest the two people in the photos.

EPS said they are grateful to the public for all the tips they received, adding they do not need any more tips at this time.

An autopsy for the toddler is scheduled for Monday.
