1 dead, 6 injured after shooting outside Edmonton lounge: police

Update: On March 17, 2022, Edmonton Police Service said two men, aged 22 and 23, had each been charged with first degree murder,six counts of discharging a firearm with intent to endanger life and multiple other firearms offences. A third man, aged 27, was wanted on a Canada-wide warrant on the same charges.

A man is dead and several other peoplewere injured after a shooting outside an Edmonton lounge early Saturday morning, police say.

Around 2:45 a.m., Edmonton police responded to a report about shots fired at a lounge nearthe intersection of 124th Street and 118th Avenue, near Inglewood. On Sunday, the Ertale Lounge was taped off and police were watching over the bar.

Two women and four men were found shot outside the lounge; paramedics treated them and sent them to hospital with "various injuries," police said.

A fifth injured man got to a hospital on hisown, they added.

One of the men has died from their injuries; four of the victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while two others are still in hospital in serious condition, police said.

The Edmonton Police Service(EPS) homicide section has taken over the investigation.

Both traffic lanes on 118th Avenue, from 124th to 127th streets, were blocked off before 5 a.m. Saturday morning so police could investigate the scene.

Mario Pavlovic, owner of the Big Foot Pub, next door to Ertale Lounge, first learned of the shooting from his landlord, thenreceived a call from police informing him about the incident.

He said police called nearby business ownersinforming them that they would not be able to access their spaces until police had cleared the scene.

It wasn't until later that Pavloviclearned from others that there were seven victims, including someone who died.

"It's shocking," Pavlovic said.

"I feel like this will affect all businesses in this area because this area was getting better,now this happens."

Edmonton policeissued a statement to news media around 10:30 p.m. Saturday, saying that the section of 118th Avenue had been reopened.

A vehicle that police believewasinvolved in the shootingwas found at 79th Street and Schonsee Way in Edmonton's Lake District, in the northern part of the city.

Police are asking residents in the area to review any dashcam or security footage for suspicious activity captured early Saturday.

EPS did not have any more information Sunday afternoon, a spokesperson said.
