Edmonton police seize date rape drug

Edmonton police have seized the largest amount of date rape drug in the province's history.

Edmonton police have made their biggest seizure of date-rape drug in the province's history.

Police were searching a property Friday at 121 Street and Jasper Avenue when they found four litres of Gamma Hydroxybutyric (GHB), 300 pieces of stolen identification, blank credit cards and a credit card making machine.

The date-rape drug is oftenused by people looking for a recreational "high," said police.

The drug is odorless and colourless with a soapy or salty taste. It comes as awhite powderora clear syrupy liquid andhasa similar effect as drinking a large quantity of alcohol.

The street value of the seizure isabout $16,000.

Police said the ID was stolen from vehicles over the past three months.

A 35-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman, both from Edmonton, face numerous charges, including possession for the purpose of trafficking.
