Edmonton school trustees favour Wi-Fi plan

The Edmonton School Board is moving ahead to install wireless networks in classrooms over the protests of parents at George P. Nicholson Elementary School.

The Edmonton School Boardwill not stop installing wirelessnetworks in classrooms despite the protests of parentsat George P. Nicholson Elementary School.

Some parentspleaded with trustees Tuesday night todelay installing Wi-Fi until the technology is guaranteed safe.

The parents are worried exposure to the low-level radiation could harm their children.

Buttrusteesthink the board should rely on safety standards set by Health Canada and theWorld Health Organization, which have declared the technology safe.

Trustees also spoke in support ofwireless technologyas an educational tool.

The board will declare its officialpositionat the nextmeetingJan. 25.
