Severe thunderstorm warnings continue for southeast Alberta

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain across east and southeast Alberta.

Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking an area of severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to nickel size hail and heavy rain across east and southeast Alberta.

As of9:15 p.m., thearea of thunderstorms extendedfrom Paradise Valley to Provostand was moving eastat about 45 km/h, though Doppler radar indicatedwind gusts could exceed 100 km/h.

Meteorologists are also tracking a line of severe thunderstorms extending fromPollockvilleto Consortandmoving southeast at 40km/h.

These storms were capable of producingtoonie-to ping pong-ball size hail and heavy rain and wind gustsupwards of 110 km/h.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued for much of central Alberta, including the Edmonton region and north to Slave Lake, Tuesday afternoon, but by evening only areas in the southeast of the province remained under advisories.
