Fox Creek-area gas well capped 6 days after blowout

A natural gas well that has been spewing gas and condensate in northwest Alberta for six days has finally been capped.

A natural gas well that has been spewing gas and condensate in northwest Albertafor six days has finally been capped.

Encana crews capped thedamaged wellhead in the Duvernay area, near Fox Creek, just before 2 p.m. Sunday.

In a news release, Encana spokesman Jay Averill said the company willensureany environmental damage will beremediated.

"There is an environmental team on the ground assessing the area and developing a remediation plan," he said. "In addition, we are working to determine the cause of the incident in order to prevent a similar incident from happening in the future."

The Alberta Energy Regulator said there wasno impacton areawaterways or wildlife.
