Heavy rain flooded Edmonton streets

Heavy rainfall in Edmonton made driving hazardous in some areas of the city on Monday ascrews were kept busyreplacingmanhole covers and clearingcatch basins.

A heavy rainfall warningwasissued for the City of Edmonton, St. Albert andSherwood Park this morning as heavy rainfall pushed into the region.

The warning ended just before 2 p.m.

Between15 and 30 millimetres of rainhad fallen by late morning,but Environment Canada predicted as much as50 millimetres could fall before the band of rain pivoted around the city.

On this date last year, Edmonton was hit with54.5 millimetres of rain, CBC meteorologist Cory Edel reported.

The cityhas recorded 41 millimetresof rain thisJuly, but will be much closer to themonthly average of 91.7 millimetres.
