A leaky pipe at the Alberta Legislature hasdelayed the openingof the wading pool and fountains, leaving toddlers and photographers out to dry.

According to government spokesperson Sharon Lopatka,an underground leak was discovered May 20about 50 metres west of the Legislature.

"The leak is on the supply water line that recirculates treated water to the reflecting pool and domed fountain," Lopatka said in a statement.

"The area of the leak has been secured and excavated. We are currently determining the extent of the leak and the next steps for repair."

Infrastructure Minister Brian Mason says he doesn't know when the pipewill be repaired.

"When it's done, we'll reopen them, and maybe try to find a more calming kind of tape to block it off," he said.

Lopatka says ittakesat least10days for the site to be prepared for start-up of the season.

The wading pools and fountains, usually filled by the May long weekend, are a favourite offamilies with toddlers and are popular as backdrops forgraduation and wedding parties.
