Lodgepole wildfire burning out of control

Around 140 firefighters, along with helicopters and air tankers, are battling an out-of-control blaze in northern Alberta.

More than 100 firefighters, along with helicopters and air tankers, are battling an out-of-control blazein centralAlberta.

The fire, about eightkilometres north of Lodgepole, started Tuesday. It has since grown to be about 750 hectares in size.

"This particular wildfire is the largest one that we've had this season and we have about 140 firefighters working on it," said fire information officer Janelle Lane.

The fire is believed to have been started by human activitybecause there was no lightning reportedin the area.Lane said firefighters are building a perimeterto keep the flamescontained.

The fire wasburning away from Lodgepole and the nearby hamlet of Cynthia earlier Thursday,making evacuations "unlikely."

The area was evacuated following a serious wildfire near Lodgepole in 2013.

The cause of the wildfire is still under investigation.
