Man, 32, charged in Edmonton's 17th homicide of 2017

Police have laid a murder charge after a 22-year-old man was found dead Sunday at a south Edmonton home.

The victim has been identified as Jake Myles Skrepnek-Rey, police said in a news release.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday. The death was Edmonton's 17th homicide of 2017.

Homicide detectives on Monday charged a 32-year-old man with second-degree murder.

Police had been called to a weapons complaint at about 3:15 p.m. Sunday in the area of 106th Street and 61st Avenue.

When police and emergency medical services arrived at the scene, the body of a man was found outside at the back of the home. He had what appeared to be a stab wound.

Detectives arrested an injured suspect at a hospital a couple of hours later. Investigations saidan altercation led to the stabbing.

Police believe that at least four other people who were at the scene, known to the accused or the victim, may have information or may have witnessed the killing.Police are asking themto come forward.
