Morinville woman faces animal cruelty charges after dogs, cats, rabbits seized

A northern Alberta woman facesanimal cruelty charges after a horde of cats, dogs and rabbits were found living in "deplorable" conditions inside her Morinville home.

Bylaw officers andMorinville RCMP executed a search warrant at the residence on June 3.

The animals were seized and turned over to theMorinville Veterinary Clinic for immediate medical attention.

"The majority of the animals were in a garage, they weren't necessarily in the home," said Cpl. Laurel Scott.

"The conditions were sufficiently bad that a charge was laid under the Criminal Code, that we felt that the criteria was met to lay a charge."

The clinic declined to comment on the conditions of the animals.

The 26-year-old woman was charged with one count of cruelty to animals and four counts under the Animal Protection Act of Alberta. She is scheduled to appear in Morinville provincial court on June 16.
