Oct. 4, 1994 The Rolling Stones roll into Commonwealth

The Rolling Stones kicked off the first of two shows at Commonwealth Stadium on the Canadian leg of the Voodoo Lounge tour showing fans why the veteran rock-and-roll group has been around so long.

Before entering, the 60,000 concert-goers were frisked with smuggled alcohol or drugs taken away. There was enough confiscated booze to fill a few barrels.

Demand for the concert was so high that counterfeit tickets became an issue, leaving some unwary fans without seats.

The show itself, full of costume changes and pyrotechnics, showcased the hits that Stones' fans came for, before ending in a gigantic fireworks display.

Some fans from Newfoundland who came to Edmonton just for the show had a one-word review, "excellent."

There was even one fan that went into premature labour at the concert and had to taken away in an ambulance.

With time still on their side, the Rolling Stones continue to tour and record today.
