BikeWorks had to apply for a variance for not having enough parking spaces.

A plan by a local bike shop to open a new location has been delayed for the most ironic of reasons the site doesnt have enough vehicle parking spots to satisfy city bylaw requirements.

Bikeworks South was supposed to open two weeks ago. Now the owners are awaiting approval of a variance to let them only have 13 parking spots instead of the required 18.

Were ready to open right away as soon as we get that business license, said Chris Chan of the Edmonton Bicycle Commuters Society, the volunteer group behind Bikeworks.
