A family who fled the flames in Fort McMurray has now suffered another loss.

Precious items they managed to save last month from the devastating wildfire have been stolen.

RCMP say a travel trailer the family had been living in during the weeks-long evacuation was stolen on Sunday from the overflow campground at Gull Lake.

The trailer was recovered the next day by Blackfalds RCMP, but several sentimental items were missing.

"It's probably heartbreaking for them," said Cpl Laurel Scott."They have already been through a lot. And to have this added to it, it has to be quite traumatic.

"Anytime anything is stolen from you, it's a very personal affront. But to add the circumstances that this family been through makes it tougher, I'm sure.

"Everything they managed to salvage was in that trailer."

Police say heirloom jewelry, including two rings are still unaccounted for, along with the children's bicycles a girl's purple BMX bike with purple pegs and a boy's lime-green BMX bike with black pegs.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Blackfalds RCMP or Crime Stoppers.

"I'm hopeful that someone will maybe hear this report and recognize the items or perhaps the person who took these items will understand their sentimental value and will decide to return them," Scott said.

"We're just trying to help this family get these items back."

Anyone with information on the case is asked to contact Blackfalds RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
