Royal Alberta Museum hosts 48-hour party to honour 48 years

After 48 years, the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmonton will be closing its doors on Sunday, following 48 hours of festivities.

Event is the last chance for Edmontonians to see many of the old exhibits

After 48 years, the Royal Alberta Museum in Edmontonwill be closing its doors on Sunday, following48 hours of festivities.

Starting at 5 p.m. Friday, the museum will be hosting Goodbye Hello: The Closing Party at its128thStreet and 102nd Avenue location.

"This really is about giving Albertans the last chance to see all of the galleries," said Chris Robinson, The RAM's executive director.

"This is the last time that people will see (some of the galleries) looking the way that they are. We're not just picking them up as they are and transferring them to the new museum," he said

"We're making entirely new experiences."

In addition to the installations familiar to regular museum goers, there will also be swing dancing lessons, movie marathons and an attempt to create the world's largest comic book.

The museum is expected to open in its new downtown location inlate 2017 or early 2018.
