Sexual assault charge against Edmonton RCMP officer withdrawn by Crown prosecutors

An Edmonton woman was ending a relationship with the officer when the assault occurred in 2018, ASIRT alleges.

Update: Crown prosecutors withdrew the sexual assault charge against Kondoski in September 2021. An RCMP conduct hearing is underway, evidence for which will next be heard on June 3, 2024.


A RCMP officerhas been charged with sexual assault in relation to an incident in 2018.

Cpl. Kire Kondoski, 38, was arrested Friday and charged with one count of sexual assault, according to a news release issued Monday bytheAlberta Serious Incident Response Team.

Kondoskiand the complainant, awoman who lived in Edmonton, had been involved in a relationship, the release said

Sometime between July 30 and Sept. 3, 2018, the woman attempted to end the relationship and asked Kondoski, who was off duty at the time,to leave herhome.

"It is alleged that the officer proceeded to commit a serious sexual assault," the release said.

On Feb. 26, 2020, ASIRT,which is tasked by the province withinvestigatingallegations of police misconduct, was directed to open an investigation.

Kondoskihas beenreleased on conditions and is scheduledto appear in Edmonton provincial court on March 4.

Kondoskihas almost 12 years of service with the RCMP and was most recently a member ofthemajor crimes unit in Edmonton. Hewas reassignedto administrative duties whenthe allegation was made, RCMP said in a news release Monday.
