MacEwan University calls for light at 'dangerous' corner

MacEwan University is asking for a pedestrian traffic light near its west campus five days after a student washit by a car in a crosswalk.

"I knew that if there was a chance thatI blacked out,I might never see my girlfriend again," said Matt Meeker who wasrun downwhile on his way to school Friday.

Meeker saidtwo lanes of traffic had stopped, buta thirddid not.

"It bumped me in the hip but the car was still coming at me so my face was also greatly impacted on the hood."

Meeker survived with head and hip injuries, but had to postpone writinghis final exams.

The university has asked twice before forthe light on 156th Streetat 100A Avenue west of campus.

"It's a dangerous intersection," said spokesperson Denise Roy. "We don't want anyone, our students or the public being hurt."
