Street racing charge laid in teen's death

An Edmonton man faces a number of charges in an alleged street racing incident in April that killed 16-year-old Jeremie LeBlanc.

An Edmonton man faces a number of charges in an alleged street racing incident in April that killed a 16-year-old boy.

Jayant Soni, 31, was charged Monday with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle by street racing causing death, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and refusal to provide a breath sample.

On April 23, the drivers of a white 2007 Lexus IS250 and a silver 2005 Mercedes Benz were speeding north on 66th St. towards 31st Ave. at 11:30 p.m. when they struck an Oldsmobile Alero that was trying to turn left.

Jeremie LeBlanc was behind the wheel of the Oldsmobile. He was rushed to hospital with critical injuries where he later died shortly afterwards.

Charges are pending against the second driver.
