Svekla to go to trial in prostitutes' deaths

An Alberta man accused of killing two prostitutes will go to trial on two counts of second-degree murder, a judge ruled Thursday.

An Alberta man accused of killing two prostituteswillgo to trial on two counts of second-degree murder, a judge ruled Thursday.

Thomas Svekla will also be tried for two counts of interfering with a human body in the deaths of 19-year-old Theresa Innes and 36-year-old Rachel Quinney.

Svekla's preliminary hearing has been underway in a Fort Saskatchewan courtroom since early January.

He will be in an Edmonton court on March 23 for arraignment.

Police allege Svekla reported the discovery of Quinney's body in a wooded area northeast of Sherwood Park, an Edmonton suburb, on June 11, 2004.

Innes's remains were discovered in a hockey bag in a Fort Saskatchewan home in May 2005.
