Three Edmonton schools should close: report

The list of public schools that could be closed in Edmonton has narrowed to three.

The list of public schools that could be closed in Edmonton has narrowed to three.

After a review of several schools, planners withEdmontonPublic Schoolshave recommended that High Park, Mill Creek and Newton schools be closed at the end of the school year.

They also suggest the regular program at Mount Pleasant school be ended, but that the Cogito program, which focuses on "the mastery of basic academic skills," continue at the school.

Trustees will look at the recommendations at their meeting onTuesday evening.

Last October, the public school boardbegan a review ofthe future of ten schools, based on criteria such as enrolment levels, neighbourhood demographics, use of space and how many other schools are nearby.

Coronation, Grovenor, High Park, Lendrum, Montrose, Mount Royal, Newton, Mount Pleasant and Mill Creek/Ritchie, which share a principal but have two campuses, were under review.
