Transit official responsible for LRT signalling leaves job

The manager of Edmonton Transit responsible for the LRT signalling systemis no longer with the city of Edmonton.

An internal memo was sent to city staff Monday stating Charles Stolte had left his job.

His departure comesafter the opening of the NAIT or Metro LRT line was delayed again on the weekend.

The line was supposed to open in April 2014 but the opening date has been pushed back several times due to problems with the new signalling system.

Mayor Don Ivesoncalledthe delays unacceptable last fall and said that someonewould eventually be held accountable.

Iveson was asked Tuesday whether Stolte's departure was related to problems with the MetroLRT line.

"I have no knowledge as to what the decision was. That was an internal human resources decision that I can't comment on," he said, adding he had nothing to do with Stolte's departure.

"All of those reporting relationships are within city administration, up through the city manager."

Ken Koropeski has been named Stolte's interim replacement.

City councillors are expected to get an updateon the Metro LRT line when the audit committee meets later this month.
