Walterdale Bridge step closer to completion as arches move into place

The arches of the new Walterdale Bridge will be moved into place on Tuesday.

The top of the arch will reach a height of 54 m above the river. Once in place, the arch will be about the same height as the High Level Bridge.

The arches of the new Walterdale Bridge will be moved into place on Tuesday.

The 2,000-tonnecentralarch will be raised about 20 metres,to its permanent height of 54 metres above the river, about the same height as the High Level Bridge.

The goal Tuesday isto bolt thearch pieces into their finalplace, whichshould take more than eight hours.

In November 2015, the central section was floated on barges to the bridge site and placed on steel supports.

In January, thesection was lifted 15 metres and connected to the arch segments already resting on theberms.

The new Walterdale Bridge is scheduled to open to traffic by the end of 2016, with overall project completion by fall 2017.
