Walterdale Hill Road closes for three months starting Monday

Edmonton commuters used to using Walterdale Hill Road will be forced to takea different route for much of the summer thanks to the construction of the new Walterdale Bridge.

Starting Monday May 5 at 9 a.m. the Walterdale Hill Road will be closed to all vehicle traffic from 109 Street to Queen Elizabeth Park Road. The closure is expected to continue until Aug. 4.

While crews work on the $155-million project, drivers should expect delays on both 109 Street and Saskatchewan Drive.

Drivers are being advised to detour on Saskatchewan Drive to either the Queen Elizabeth Park Road, 99 Street/Scona Road or Groat Road.

Access to the Walterdale Bridge, Kinsmen Sports Centre and John Walter Museum will remain open through the construction process.

Several Edmonton Transit routes will have experience detours during construction. Both the 9 and 197 routes will have detours, while a temporary bus stop is being added to the bottom of Queen Elizabeth Park Road.

The new Walterdale Bridge is scheduled to open in 2015.
