Occupational Health and Safety investigating after Edmonton worker fatally struck by equipment

A man is dead after being struck by a piece of equipment Monday at a business in northwest Edmonton.

A man is dead after being struck by a piece of equipment on the job Monday in northwest Edmonton.

Occupational Health and Safety officials are investigating the death of the workerat Gir Del Hydraulic Services near 153rd Street and 131st Avenue in theMistatim Industrial district.

In a statement to CBC Wednesday, OHS officials said a worker died after being struck by equipment. An investigation is ongoing. Officials declined to provide further details.

"It is always tragic when a worker dies on the job," an OHS spokesperson said in the statement."Our government's goal is to have all workers return home safely after every workday."

Gir Del Hydraulic Servicesspecializesin therepair ofhydrauliccylinders and components, and also sells mobile hydraulic equipment.

Mike Eskiw, general manager of Gir Del Hydraulic Services, told CBC that company officials are fullyco-operating with the investigation.

Eskiw said his thoughts and prayers are with the man's family.
