Would-be cowboys hoping for shot at Brad Pitt movie

The idea that a Brad Pitt movie may shoot in Alberta has local actors and wannabe cowboys coming out of the hills.

The idea that a Brad Pitt movie may shoot in Alberta has local actors and wannabe cowboys coming out of the hills.

Producers of the Jesse James flick are still deciding where to stage the western, a telling of the outlaw's killing.

They are said to be considering locations in New Mexico and Colorado as well.

Elizabeth Ebbles, an Edmonton talent agent, says she has been deluged with calls from clients hoping for a part in a film which may not shoot here.

"I have all the wannabe cowboys in the whole world showing up at my door," she said. "People who swear they can ride, rope, shoot, brand 'em and roll a cigarette in a full wind, while shooting with the other hand.

"It's phenomenal. Every little boy wants to be a cowboy."

Chris Heward, who grew up on a ranch, is already trying to wrangle an audition.

"I'm excited and I hope that I can prove to my agent that she should get me an audition," Heward said. "I grew up on a ranch in Manitoba, riding horses, I'm a very accomplished rider.

"I'm also good with six-shooter guns, I've practised quick draws and gun twirling, and I've watched more western movies than anyone I know."

The movie is based on the Robert Hansen novel "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford." It would begin shooting this fall.
