Every day, musicians write, record and release new music in Ontario. On CBC Radio One's In the Key of C, we try to highlight some of our favourites each week.

You can hear the show live every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. ET on CBC Radio One in Ontario. In the Key of C can be heard across the province, except for in the GTA. Hamilton listeners can hear the segment in the player above.

Babygirl: It's Getting Late

Babygirl absolutely nails that nostalgic 90s alternative sound that's permeating pop and rock music on It's Getting Late.

There's a danger of oversaturation inherent in that throwback vibe, but this track eclipses any of those worries easily.

This hook is an ear worm that just will not go away.

The Medicine Hat: St. Cecilia

Hamilton's The Medicine Hat has released their strongest work to date with St. Cecilia.

This track is lush, melodic, and grabbed me on the first listen.

Repeated listens let you dissect the layers of this tune the unison punches within the verses especially stand out.

Michaela May: Lights Out

Lights Out from Michaela May might be the most mainstream pop I've ever posted here.

I'm admittedly not usually a fan of this sort of thing, but you can't deny how well it's performed and produced.

Plus, May is an independent artist reminding us all that indiedoesn'tbeginand endwith Modest Mouse.
