A 14-year-old playing on a train in the Niagara area had to call police for help when the train began to pick up speed with him hanging on the side.

Police said the 911 call came in from theyouthTuesday evening after the CNtrain he was playing on in the area ofNeffRoad andWilhelmRoad in PortColborne, started to go too fast for him to jump off.So he clung to the rail car while making the call.

The train was brought to a halt when the engineer noticed a person hanging onto the side of the train.

He told police that he and his friends were playing on the slow-moving train.

Police said one other teenager was also on the moving train, but jumped off while it was still moving at a slower pace.

By the time the first officer arrived at the scene at 9:11 p.m., the teenager was already off of the train and with the engineer.

The minors were driven home by police.

According to Operation Life Safer, approximately 300 collisions and trespassing incidents occur at highway/railway crossings and along railway tracks in Canada, resulting in the death or serious injury of nearly 130 people.

Trespassingon railway property is both dangerous and illegal.
