Bike to work day kicks off a month of cycling

Hamiltonians will ride their bikes on Monday to mark the first day of Bike Month from May 29 to June 30.

Get to work on two wheels on Monday, and you'll be joining hundreds of fellow Hamiltonianscycling in to work to reduce air pollution andtraffic congestion and to getexercise.

A student parade to city hall andan awards ceremonywill all take place as part of the day's celebrations.

Events at city hallrun from 7a.m. to 9a.m.

Monday also marks thelaunch of a pilot program that will allow cyclists to take an HSR bus up or down the escarpment for free.

The Mountain Climber Program allows cycliststo take a bus to travel up or down James Mountain Hill on the Route 20 - A Line, Route 21- UpperKenilworth, Route 33 - Sanatorium, or Route 35 - College.

Cyclistsshould wait at one of the marked stops at the top or bottom of James Mountain Road.

The city is encouraging people to register online for a chance towin a variety of prizes.

Mayor FredEisenbergerand City Manager Chris Murray, along withcouncillors,will all be on their bikes at City Hall Monday morning to kick off the month.

"You should ride to work as well because it's good for your health," saidEisenbergerin a video message.
