Whether you like the idea of biweekly garbage pickup, or you want Hamilton city council to run from the idea, this is the moment to make your voice known.

There are only sevendays left to fill out the city's online survey on its waste programs.

The survey is part of a sweeping inventory of people's thoughts on Hamilton's waste programs. Itwill help shape whether city council considers garbage pickup every two weeks, or leaves it at the one-bag-a-week status quo, along with other elements of thecity's next contract with waste collectors, due in 2020.

So far, some city councillors like the idea of one garbage bag every two weeks, saying it encourages waste reduction and diverts garbage from landfills

Others say it's not an area where they're willing to cut corners. The idea has been debated three times since 2007.

The survey asks for opinions on a "wheeled cart program," where the city gives homeowners standard sized garbage bins with an attached lid. Trucks with mechanical arms would pick up the bins, rather than human waste collectors.

The survey is open until Nov. 30 at hamilton.ca/wastesurvey. The city is also calling about 800 residents to do the survey on the phone.

City council will see the survey results early next year.
