More than 20,000 people in Hamilton have had COVID-19: public health

Hamilton public health data shows more than 20,000 residentshave had COVID-19 since the pandemic started 14 months ago.

As of Sunday, there were 20,076 confirmed and probable cases.

Two more peoplealso died this weekend, for a total of 378 deaths.

There are 883 active cases in the city compared to1,154 active cases a week ago.

The city's reproductive number is at 1.08, which means the local case count isn't shrinking.

The seven-day average ofnew casesis110, which is roughly the same as it was a week ago, rather than continuing to fall. The current figures aren't far off from the peak of the second wave.

Ninety-one people are in hospital as of Friday, according to figures from HHS and St. Joe's.

Of the more than 20,000 cases, 91.7 per cent areresolved those are people who public health says completed isolation and aren't in the hospital with COVID-19 complications.

8 Heritage Green Nursing home staff infected

There are 38 outbreaks in the city, according to public health.

It declared an outbreak with eight staff cases atHeritage Green Nursing Home on Saturday. Just a week prior, public health declared an outbreakthere over.

The current outbreak involvesthe B117 variant first found in the U.K.

The Stoney Creek nursing home said on its website outdoor visits were starting on Saturday.

CBC News reached out to the nursing home for comment.

Public healthdeclared three other new outbreaksthis weekend.

• Hatts Off at 43 Delaware Ave with one suspected residentcase.
• J&M Lodging Home with one suspected client case.
• Mount Hamilton Baptist Day Care's"Pumpkin Patch" with two student cases.

52.2% of eligible people vaccinated

Public health says 266,429 vaccine doses have been administered as ofend of day May 20.

That's 52.2 per cent of all eligible people.

Brant

The county has 106 active cases,according todata online.Twelve new cases were reported over the last 24 hours.

There have been 3,161 cases since March 2020 and 20 deaths. Six people are hospitalized with COVID-19, according to public health.

Of the total cases since the start of the pandemic, just126 are not marked as resolved.

A total of 78,815 doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Haldimand-Norfolk

Haldimand and Norfolk Countiesreporteda total of 81 active cases.

There have been 2,597cases throughout the pandemic. Of those, 2,467are listed as recovered.

The local public health unit reported 44 COVID-19-relateddeaths.

In total, 52,325 vaccine doses have been administered.

Halton

The number of COVID-19 cases in Halton rose by 49 over the past 24 hours, for a total of17,251 so far.

Data showsthere are currently 439 active cases.

Seventeen of the new cases reported were in Burlington, which has seen 4,332cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There are 145active cases in the city.

A total of 223people across the region have died after being infected with the virus, 55 of them in Burlington.

The region has seen a total of 5,482 variant cases.

There have been 280,012 doses of the vaccine administered in Halton.

Niagara

Niagara reported 33 new cases. The region has seen15,508 cases over the course of the pandemic, including 1,054that are active.

A total of 405 deaths have been reported throughout the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 14,049 cases were marked as resolved.

In all, 244,520 vaccine doses have beenadministered by public health and122,806 doses have been given out by Niagara Health.

Six Nations

Two people in Six Nations of the Grand Riverhave COVID-19 and 26 people are isolatingas of Friday according to Oshweken Public Health.

There have been 526 positive tests and 513 cases are marked as resolved. Eleven people have died.

Sixty cases in the territory have screened positive for a variant of concern.

One in three people have received a vaccine dose, public health says.
