New outbreak declared in Hamilton as total number of COVID-19 cases rises to 454

The total number ofCOVID-19 cases in Hamilton rose to 454 Sunday 62 per cent of which are considered resolved.

Of those cases, 447 are confirmed positive and another seven are considered probable.

Twenty people have died of the virus and 279 people have recovered.

Public health listed 14 outbreaks in Hamilton, 11 of which are at institutions in the city and three in the community.

The latest outbreak was declared at I.H. Mission Services on Saturday after a staff member tested positive.

Sixty people in the city have been hospitalized because of the novel coronavirusso far. Ten people were being cared for at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton Sunday, with another 19 at Hamilton Health Sciences.

Brant

Three new cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in Brant County since Friday, bringing the county's total to 99.

The number of resolved cases has risen too, hitting 71.

Five people in the county are currently hospitalized because of the virus and three have died.

Haldimand-Norfolk

The number of confirmed cases in Haldimand and Norfolk counties rose to 196 Sunday. Fifty people have recovered from the virus so far, while 30 people have died.

A breakdown of statistics provided by Health and Social Services shows just over 19 per cent of cases are people between the ages of 80 and 89, while just under 18 per cent are 90 or older.

Niagara

Three hundred COVID-19 cases in the Niagara Region have been resolved so far.

A total of 518 cases were tallied Sunday, an increase of 14 compared to the day before. Public health says 173 of those cases are considered active.

Just over 22 per cent of cases arehealth-care workers, states the region's website, and 33.6 per cent involve long-term care or retirement home residents.

Forty-five people in the region have died of the virus.

Halton

The total number of COVID-19 cases and recoveries in the Halton Region both jumped by eight Sunday, landing at 538 and 388 respectively.

Ninety-three of those confirmed cases are in Burlington, according to health officials, where seven people have died of the virus and 73 recovered.

There are five ongoing institutional outbreaks, including at the Village of Tansley Woods retirement home in Burlington.

However, seven outbreaks have been declared over, among them Joseph Brant Hospital where four patients had tested positive and one died.
