Labour ministry shares how a worker was killed at ArcelorMittal Dofasco last week

The worker who was killed while on the job at Hamilton steel maker ArcelorMittal Dofasco, died after being pinned between two trucks, the ministry investigating said.

On Sept. 20, the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development received word of "an incident," which occurred at 1330 Burlington St. in Hamilton, a ministry spokesperson said in an email on Tuesday.

"It was reported a worker was pinned between two vehicles, resulting in fatal injuries," they said. "We extend our deepest condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker during this difficult time."

The ministry said two inspectors went to the scene and ordered the employer not to "disturb" it.

The company announced the worker's death on Saturday, sharing condolences but declining to offer information about the worker and the circumstances of their death.

The ministry also refused to identify the worker.

Hamilton police spokesperson Jackie Penman told CBC Hamilton the police are not involved in the investigation.
