New COVID-19 cases at Stoney Creek Fortinos and Chartwell Willowgrove outbreak in Hamilton

A third employee at theFortinoson Highway 8 in Stoney Creek has tested positive for COVID-19.

Loblawsaid the worker was last in the Fiesta Mall locationon Sunday.

The other two employees with the virus were last at work on Oct. 29 and Oct. 27.

"In these cases, we work closely with public health and follow their guidance to ensure proper notification of close contacts and required cleaning and sanitization in our stores," reads a notice on the Loblaw website.

"In all of our stores, we encourage our colleagues and employees to wear masks, particularly where physical distancing is not always possible."

No outbreak declared at Fortinos

It's unclear how each worker was infected, butHamilton Public Health Services (HPHS)has not declared an outbreak at the store and it won'tcomment on individual cases.

Beverly Wright, Fortinos marketing director, said in an email that public health considered the cases "low risk."

"The store has continued with their deep cleaning protocols, mandatory masks for both customers and employees as well as daily temperature checks for employees. The store is open for business as usual and continues with their daily sanitation procedures."

Number of active cases in Hamilton drops

HPHS recordedjust two new cases of COVID-19on Tuesday, both of which were at theChartwell Willowgrovelong-termcare home. The outbreak at the care home now has 42 cases, 22 of which are residents.

There are173 active cases of the virus in the city. That's25 fewer active cases compared to Monday, which set a record for the most active cases in the city, at 198.

Almost half of the cases in the last 10 days have been spread through close contact, while 30 per cent were community acquired and roughly a quarter are from outbreaks.

Hamilton has seen a total of 1,871cases since the pandemicbegan. Four people are in hospital and 1,649 are resolved.

Forty-eight people with COVID-19have died locally.

Brant

The Brant County Health Unit reports 62 people have COVID-19.

The total number of confirmed casesstands at 294, up nine from Monday.

Four people with the virusare in hospital.

Five people have died and 227 cases are resolved.

Haldimand-Norfolk

Twenty-six people in Haldimand and Norfolk countieshave COVID-19as of Tuesday, according to local public health officials.

The Haldimand-Norfolk Health Unitwebsiteshows there have been547 confirmed cases during the pandemic, with 484people recovered.

Thirty-two deaths in the area are considered to be related to COVID-19.

Halton

Public healthreports247 people in the HaltonRegion are infected. The total number of people with COVID-19 grew by 53 between Sunday and Monday, with 2,255 infections since the pandemic started.

Thirty-six people have died, with 1,972 cases resolved.

Statistics on the Halton website showthere are 53 active cases in Burlington.

Niagara

An employee at Zehrs on Glendale Avenue also has COVID-19.

Loblaw said the worker was last in the grocery store on Oct. 28.

There are 196 people with COVID-19 in the Niagara region,according to public health.

COVID-19 has infected 1,520 people, which is38 more cases than on Monday.

Seventy-four people have died and 1,250 cases have been resolved.

Six Nations

A COVID-19 update for Six Nations of the Grand River on Monday showed 13 active cases.

There have been 93 cases of the virus on Six Nations territory, including 80 that are resolved.

One person has died.
