GO train, HSR free on New Year's Eve

GOTransit and HSR are extending their schedulesand offering free rideson New Year's Eve to get you home safe.

Metrolinx will run extra homebound trains on the Lakeshore West line from Union Station to Aldershot Station at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. However, trains departing Union at 5:15 p.m., 6 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. will be cancelled.

Late-night service will also be extended with extra trains departing Union at 1:13 a.m. and 3:23 a.m. January 1.

Service is free after 7 p.m., meaning customers can board without tapping their Prestocard or buying a ticket.

Metrolinx is reminding customers drinking alcohol is not allowed on trains.

HSR is also offering free service starting at 6 p.m.

Buses will run on a regular weekday schedule with extended evening service.HSR says buses onmost routes will run until about 2:30 a.m.Regular weekday Trans-Cab hours will be in effect.

On New Year's Day, both GOTransit and HSR will run on a Sunday schedule.
