Hamilton bus fares rising in September

Local transit rates are increasing in September so adult HSR tickets will be 15 cents more per ride.

As of Sept. 1, adult tickets will be $2.30 per ride. Student tickets will increase by 10 cents to $1.90 per ride.

Cash fare will increase by 25 cents to $3 per ride.

The fare increase is part of the city's 10-year local transit strategy, the city says.It will help improve service, run faster and more reliable transit and prepare for population growth.

Here's what it will cost to ride the bus:

Single ticket/PRESTO

• Adult$2.30, student $1.90, seniors 65+ (PRESTO only) $1.90

Monthly pass

• Adult $101.20, student $83.60, senior 65+ $26.50

Annual pass

• $265

Cash fare

• Adult $3, student $3, senior 65+ $3

Day pass

• $13.80. Valid for two adults and four youth/children, or one adult and five youth/children.

Current HSR tickets will be accepted until Sept. 30 if accompanied by the cash for the fare difference.
