Hamilton logs 66 cases of COVID-19 and 8 new deaths on Tuesday

The City of Hamilton reported another 66 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesdayand eight new deaths linked to the illness.

There are currently 688 active cases of COVID-19 in Hamilton.

The number of deaths recorded over the course of the pandemic now stands at 240.

Since the start of the pandemic, 8,832 people in Hamilton have been diagnosed with the novel coronavirus. Of these, 7,779 have recovered.

The city's weekly rate of new cases per 100,000 people continues to fall and is at 94 as of Tuesday.

Mountain Station police officertests positive for COVID-19

On Tuesday, Hamilton Police said they've been made aware that an officer working at the Mountain Station has tested positive for COVID-19.

In a tweet, police said the officer was last at work on Jan. 21.

"HPS is working with Public Health on contact tracing. All close contacts have been notified," police wrote in the tweet.

Brant

The county of Brant has 46 active cases and one new death according to data online. There were eight new cases in the last 24 hours.

There have been 1,317 cases since March and seven deaths. There are six people hospitalized with COVID-19.

A total of 1,264 cases have been marked as resolved.

Brant County Public Health reports 2,552 vaccines have been administered.

Haldimand-Norfolk

Haldimand and Norfolk Counties are reporting three new cases of COVID-19.

There have been 1,294 throughout the pandemic. Of those, 100 are active while 1,151 have recovered.

The local public health unit has linked the virus to 38 deaths.

Halton

The number of COVID-19 cases in Halton rose by 52 on Tuesday, for a total of 8,108 so far.

Data indicates 455 of those cases are active.

Fifteen of the new cases were in Burlington, which has seen 2,122 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic. There are 112 active cases in the city.

A total of 154 people across the region have died after being infected with the virus, 35 of them in Burlington.

Niagara

Niagara reported 93 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday. The region has seen 7,445 cases over the course of the pandemic, including 1,423 that are active.

A total of 284 people have died as a result of COVID-19 over the course of the pandemic.

Meanwhile, 5,738 cases are now marked as resolved.

Six Nations

Six Nations of the Grand River has 12 active COVID-19 cases according to Ohsweken Public Health.

There have been 146 cases reported over the course of the pandemic and one death.

A total of 131 cases have been marked as resolved.

Ontario reports 1,740 new cases of COVID-19

Meanwhile, Ontario reported another 1,740 cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday the fewest on a single day since mid-December and 63 more deaths of people with the illness.

The seven-day average of new daily cases continued its steady decline down to 2,346, from its peak at 3,555 on Jan. 11.

The province said another 9,707 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered on Monday, bringing the number of shots given out so far to 295,817. A total of 83,285 people have received both doses of a vaccine.

The first shipment of vaccine is scheduled to arrive in one of 31 fly-in First Nations communities today as part of Ontario's Operation Remote Immunity.

Nishnawbe Aski Nation Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler says that the ORNGE air ambulance service will be delivering and administering the Moderna vaccine to Weenusk First Nation.

Weenusk is a largely Cree community of approximately 500 people in the Hudson Bay region of northern Ontario.
