Hamilton sees 11 new deaths, 209 new COVID cases Tuesday

Hamilton is reporting 11 more deaths and209 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday. Thecity says the deathswere a part of the data lag last week, and include cases from Dec 28 to Jan 4.

Hamilton is reporting 11 more deaths and209 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday.

A city spokesperson said thedeathswere part of the data lag last week, and include cases from Dec 28 to Jan 4.

The city's weekly rate of new cases per 100,000 population has climbed to 168.

Hamilton has reported6,788 confirmed casessince the pandemic began.

Of those,1,714 cases are active and4,822 are resolved.

There are currently 55 COVID-19 patients at Hamilton Health Sciences, nine of whom are in ICU. There are 22 COVID-19 patients at St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton.

There are currently 26 active outbreaks in Hamilton, including one new outbreak reported atFamilies 1st in Stoney Creek.

Halton

Halton is reporting 121 more cases Tuesday, for a total of 6,484 cases since the pandemic began.

Of those, 42 more cases and two more deaths were reported in Burlington.

A field hospital in Burlington,built on the grounds of Joseph Brant Hospital, has opened this week.

The hospital says it's responding to increased pressure on hospital capacity across the southern Ontario region that includes Hamilton, Niagara, Haldimand County and Burlington.

Haltonreports 757 active cases and5,604 resolved.

One-hundred-and-twenty-three people in Halton havedied.

Brant

Brant and Brantford is reporting 26 new cases in the past 24 hours.

The region now has 173 active cases and has seen six deaths.

Five people are currently in hospital with the virus.

The region has reported 1,009 cases since the pandemic began, of which 830 are resolved.

Haldimand-Norfolk

Haldimand-Norfolk is reporting 20 more cases on Tuesday, for a total of 1,007.

There are 150 active cases and 817 cases are resolved.

There have been 35 COVID-related deaths.

Niagara

Niagara reported 89 new cases Tuesday, with a total of 4,486 since the pandemic began.

The region has 985 active cases, and 3,359 are resolved.

In Niagara, 142 people have died of the virus. There are 41 active outbreaks.
