Hamilton police break up 1 party on 'quiet' New Year's Eve

Hamilton Police say it was a quiet New Year's Eve in the city, however officers did break up one illegal party in the east end.

Staff Sgt. Paul Corrigan said police were called tothegatheringwhich involved about 19 people.

He said police issued fines to the party host.

Otherwise, Corrigan said, "it was a quiet New Year's Eve, one of the quietest we've ever had."

"Most people are complying" with COVID-19 restrictions, he said.

Hamilton went into lockdownon Dec. 21 as COVID-19 cases continue to rise.

Under lockdown, it's illegal to gather indoors with anyone who isn't a member of your household.

Indoor social events are not allowed, except with people who live under the same roof, and outdoor gatherings are limited to 10 people.
