Driver goes 135km/hr in 80 zone, charged with stunt driving

Hamilton police are urging drivers to slow down as another person in Hamilton has been charged with stunt driving in the last week.The latest to be charged is a 24-year-old Waterloo man who police say, was going 55km/hr over the speed limit.

Hamilton police are urging drivers to slow down as a secondperson has been charged with stunt driving in the last week.

The latest to be charged isa24-year-old Waterloo man whowas going 55km/hr over the speed limit, police say.

Police say shortly before 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, they noticed a black Ford Mustang driving fastnorthbound on Highway 6, north of Parkside Drive.

Police say they recordedthe car going 135km/hr in a 80km/hr zone.

Along with the stunt driving charge, the man's car has been impounded for a week and his licence has been suspended for a week as well.

"Despite repeated efforts by the Hamilton Police Service and other law enforcement agencies throughout the province, some drivers are choosing not to follow the message, 'Drive Safely,'" said Hamilton police in a statement Monday.

Last Tuesday, a20-year-old Hamilton man was charged with stunt driving after police saythey recordedthe car going112km/hr in a50km/hr zone.

Along withimmediate penalties, the courts can also consider imposing the a fine between $2,000 and$10,000,driver's licence suspension up to two years and seven demerit points upon conviction of stunt driving.

The 24-year-old is scheduled to appear in court Jan. 8.
