75-year-old man found alive 3 days after going missing

Missing man Franco Mamone was found alive in a field three days after going missing from the retirement home in Dundas where he lives.

After a long three days of searching, Hamilton Police officers found missing 75-year-old Franco Mamone in a field near Hope Street in Dundas on Saturday around 5 p.m.

"Franco had been exposed to the elements over the past few days and was rushed to hospital with the assistance of Hamilton Paramedics to receive much-needed care," said Hamilton Police Const. Stephen Welton.

Mamoneis a recognizable character in Dundas, where he lives at the Governors Manor Retirement Home. That's where he was last seen on Wednesday.

Police noted Mamone's "distinct shuffle" as a means of identifying him. Mamone speaks Italian but can only be understood by close friends and family, which complicated the search.

The all-out search grew as days passed, and Dundas property and business owners were asked to search their properties and review their camera footage to find any clues of the man's whereabouts.
